Scottish watchdog raps teacher training

An education-watchdog group in Scotland says in a report that many of the country's newest teachers are not adequately prepared to teach reading and maths, and that too many educators spend time teaching theory and not enough practical lessons. The report also expressed concern over the lack of uniformity in training and professional-development programmes available to teacher candidates and teachers.
