India lifts patents for GSK, Roche's breast cancer drugs

India struck down a patent covering GlaxoSmithKline's breast cancer drug Tykerb over concerns that the treatment is not innovative enough to deserve its own patent. A GSK spokesman said the company is evaluating an appeal. Similarly, a Roche spokesman confirmed that India had canceled divisional patents for the company's breast cancer treatment Herceptin over improper patent submissions.
