No one wants to be left out when local accountable care organizations and bundled payment agreements are created, so gastroenterologists who own ambulatory centers are forming joint ventures with hospitals, says Barry Tanner, CEO of Physicians Endoscopy in Doylestown, Pa. ACOs could change the referral landscape for GI physicians but aligning with a hospital does not mean they have to give up autonomy.
