FINRA to examine expungement rules

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is planning an examination of the rules relating to expungement requests in arbitration cases, and plans to release a new rule proposal by April. Critics say it is too easy for brokers to erase some of the criticisms made against them in arbitration cases. "We are looking at the issues raised by investors concerning settlement negotiations when an expungement request is involved," said Linda Fienberg, president of the dispute-resolution unit at FINRA.
