Tide Basic takes P&G in a new direction

Procter & Gamble did not come easily to the decision to develop Tide Basic, a lower-frills and less expensive version of its iconic Tide laundry detergent. The company has long held the strategy of introducing "improved" versions of its products with the idea that consumers will pay more for premium brands.
