Basel Committee changes focus to leverage ratios

A decision by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision to prioritize leverage ratios, instead of risk-weighted assets, could change the focus of banks' business, experts say. "For those banks that find they do not have the scale sufficient to make the economics work in low-margin-flow sectors, they'll decide the return on capital is not there to sustain them," said Chris Murphy, UBS' global head of rates and credit.
