CMS final rule gives hospices 1% pay hike in October

Hospices will get a 1% increase in Medicare payments beginning Oct. 1, but those that fail to meet quality reporting requirements will face 2% reductions in their market-based updates. The rule in 2016 eliminates requirements to report on a pain management measure, implements the Hospice Item Set for patient data collection in July 2014, and begins a quality reporting survey in 2015 to evaluate communications with patients and families, quality of care and overall hospice ratings.
