Denial of service attacks pose threat for 9-1-1 call centers

Telephone denial of service attacks are increasing in number and have been aimed at 9-1-1 call centers. The attacks begin with a phone call demanding money and failure to comply leads to a bombardment of fake phone calls that can tie up lines, making it difficult for dispatchers to reach first responders and take emergency calls. Public safety answering points that are under attack may need to transfer calls to another PSAP, this article says.
