Physician malpractice fears linked to defensive medicine, study says

Overall worries about malpractice liability rather than actual malpractice risk may be driving the practice of defensive medicine, according to researchers at the Center for Studying Health System Change. Their data analysis showed the likelihood that physicians would order tests and services for common ailments correlated with their level of fear of malpractice suits. The study was published in Health Affairs.
