Privacy rules set for smart meters in California

The California Public Utilities Commission has adopted cybersecurity and privacy rules for smart meters employed by electric utilities in the Golden State. The regulations apply to Pacific Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison, which collectively have installed 8 million smart meters in the state and plan to put in an additional 3 million by the end of 2012.
