When Ephraim Gitelman, 81, sat down with a financial adviser, his goal was relatively simple: get a better return on his retirement savings. But developing health issues indicated a little more in-depth study was required. "It's not about the portfolio. It's about life. None of it works unless we understand what's important in your life," said Gitelman's financial adviser, Katie Birmingham Weigel, who recommended he assemble a team of advisers including a geriatric care manager, a lawyer and a financial planner.
