SM-3 won't be axed from budget, DOD says

The SM-3 missile "makes sense" and won't be included in the effort to reduce the Pentagon's budget, according to a report to be released soon from the Department of Defense. The latest version of the SM-3 is meant to extend the range of previous versions and is not meant to intercept a short- to medium-range missile, which has been found to be "fundamentally impossible."
