Calif. provider uses telemedicine to link cancer patients with oncologists

The telemedicine program at Eastern Plumas Health Care in California is giving patients access to doctors in specialties including cardiology, diabetic retinopathy screening and pediatric emergency care. The group's telemedicine program for oncology, which was launched in November, gives cancer patients access to oncologists at a cancer facility in Truckee, Calif., who are able to guide them throughout the treatment process remotely. Doctors at Eastern Plumas Health Care said patients are initially skeptical about using telemedicine, but satisfaction surveys give the service high ratings.
