NRC staff finalizes review of AP1000 reactor design

Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff finalized a safety study of Westinghouse Electric's AP1000 reactor design that Georgia Power plans to use for its Plant Vogtle expansion project. The NRC still needs to approve the reactors before they can be built. "We're in the home stretch to receive final approval of the amended AP1000 design," said Westinghouse President and CEO Aris Candris.
