Washington, D.C., public schools have changed the focus of physical education classes from competition and game playing to individual fitness and personal development. The District's schools have adopted the SPARK, or Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids, program designed to fight child obesity by encouraging healthy lifestyle changes and habits.
