French immersion charter school is proposed for Portland, Ore.

08/10/2011 | Oregonian (Portland), The

Parents and French language supporters in Portland, Ore., are seeking to open a charter school focused on French immersion. The Le Monde Immersion School would begin with students in kindergarten and first grade, and would add a grade each year through eighth grade. Critics say a charter school would take money and students away from neighborhood schools, but supporters say it would attract students to the district because it would be a less costly option for parents looking to immerse their child in French.
