Red meat elevates diabetes risk in studies

Various studies, including the Nurses' Health Studies, indicated that the risk of diabetes increased 19% for every 100 grams of unprocessed red meat eaten per day, and it rose 51% for every 50 grams of processed meat, such as hot dogs, eaten each day. Replacing a daily serving of red meat with whole grains decreased the risk by 23%, while substitution of nuts and low-fat dairy products reduced the risk by 21% and 17%, respectively, according to data published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
