Facebook buys FriendFeed, launches new search

A day after buying social-aggregation tool FriendFeed for nearly $50 million, Facebook debuted its new search tool, which lets users search all content updated on the site in the past 30 days. The service is as close to real-time search as Facebook has ventured, though FriendFeed streams content from multiple social-media sites in real time. Analysts say Facebook made the acquisition, its most important to date, more for FriendFeed's team than for the site.
