Human-pet connection played part in evolution

From their earliest days on the planet, human beings were taking in dogs, cats and other animals as pets. The moves served an increasingly practical purpose as people began adding meat to their plant-based diets about 2.6 million years ago -- humans became hunters and took in animals with hunting skills, including wolves and dogs. Since then, animals and humans have influenced each others' evolutionary paths.
