Report: EPA's Tier II chemical-reporting system contains widespread errors

The federal inventory of hazardous chemicals under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, filed as Tier II reports, is plagued by errors, misreporting and inaccuracies, according to a review conducted by Reuters. Wisconsin and Illinois, for example, were found to have introduced errors in their data. The Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies do not verify reported information, so it could take years before such errors are identified, the report adds.
