U.K. to start awarding contracts in $18 billion-plus smart meter program

The U.K.'s Department of Energy and Climate Change this week will start awarding contracts in the government smart meter installation program, valued at more than $18 billion. The largest contracts will be for a communications services provider and a data services provider, with CGI, Hewlett-Packard and IBM contending for the data services contract.
