Pa. engineer hopes 4-year effort pays off with land speed record

Rob Freyvogel, a mechanical engineer from Pennsylvania, is aiming for 500 mph and a land speed record with a car to which he has devoted the past four years. The 3,000-pound streamliner will be competing in the World of Speed Races at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah next month. The completed vehicle hasn't yet been driven, but "computer models are telling us this car can go 550 mph," Freyvogel said.
