E-prescribing adoption is lower among rural EDs

Some 40% of emergency departments in urban hospitals reported using electronic prescribing, while only 6% of those in rural facilities have adopted the technology, according to a study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine. Experts said federal financial incentives may help reduce e-prescribing disparities among urban and rural providers.
