The day may be coming when E. coli will light up your life

Three enterprising college kids from Wisconsin have come up with a novel use for the often troublesome E. coli bacteria by adapting the bug to glow in the dark. The team, which is a finalist in a crowdsourcing contest sponsored by Popular Science, is using the modified bacteria to develop a biological light bulb, or "Biobulb," that will draw its power from microbes that make food and reuse waste using ambient light.
