Kellogg professor Lloyd Shefsky says great entrepreneurs don't see the world in black and white. He cites the early experiences of Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and Manpower founder Elmer Winter. "They all had experts telling them that their ideas would not work. And they didn't say: 'I'm right and you're wrong,' but they did their homework and they understood the gray area," he says.
