Companies look to law-school campuses, not firms, for recruits

Companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Pfizer are increasingly hiring and training new lawyers directly from law-school campuses instead of recruiting lawyers who have worked at law firms for several years, according to companies' legal departments. The opportunity to snag legal talent right out of law school arose during the recession, when law firms' hiring decreased. "I think it's the wave of the future," said HP general counsel Michael Holston.
