CVD scores may determine glucose control response

A Veterans Affairs Diabetes Trial found that participants who were in the middle tertile in any of four heart risk measures had reduced cardiovascular risk and delayed disease onset after undergoing intensive glucose control therapy. However, those at the highest and lowest tertiles did not show such improvements. The findings suggest that using validated CVD assessment methods may determine the response of intensive glucose control in patients, experts said.
