IAB is asking the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to scrap its proposal to clear the way for as many as 1,000 new generic top-level domains, which could include brand names or business segment identifiers. IAB President and CEO Randall Rothenberg said the potential change "seems to have been made in a top-down star chamber. There appears to have been no economic impact research, no full and open stakeholder discussions, and little concern for the delicate balance of the Internet ecosystem." The move also is being protested by the Association of National Advertisers.
