Winning bid for bridge in Seattle comes in under estimates

A bid of $586.5 million by Kiewit-General-Manson bested those of others to build the floating, six-lane replacement for the SR 520 bridge in Seattle. The bid is $163.5 million less than the estimated maximum price. "Identifying the contractor who provides the apparent best value is a major step toward constructing a safer bridge that will keep our economy moving," said Washington state Gov. Chris Gregoire. The bridge's construction will begin next year.
