Calif. teachers tell students to show their understanding of social studies

Educators in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District in California have welcomed students back to class along with higher expectations. Teachers, who attended their first districtwide Common Core State Standards training last week, said students will need to explain their reasoning and demonstrate deeper, critical thinking. High-school history teacher Curt Greeley told his students they will re-enact events in world history such as the Paris peace treaty. "We're actually going to experience history," Greeley said.
