A New York Times special report on the role of women in the modern military notes that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are the first in which U.S. women have lived and fought alongside men for long periods of time. "There was a lot of debate over where women should be. Here we are six years later, and you don't hear about it. You shouldn't hear about it," said Brig. Gen. Heidi V. Brown, one of the two highest ranking women in Iraq today.
