High levels of fat reduce embryonic survival in cows

Egg cells exposed to high amounts of saturated fatty acids had increased amino acid metabolism, as well as altered oxygen, glucose and lactate consumption resulting in embryos with impaired metabolic regulation, according to a study on cows. The findings in PLoS One may shed light on the difficulty of conception among obese women and those with diabetes, experts said.
