A study of home dishwashers in 101 communities worldwide found that certain pathogenic fungi were widespread in dishwashers. "There is no danger at all for normal individuals; the number of infections is very small, even in immunocompromised," said study co-author G.S. de Hoog. "[T]here have been no reports on the infection of healthy humans in households using dishwashers but the potential hazard they represent should not be overlooked," noted the study.
