Survey: Majority of Americans trust teachers

Almost 75% of people who participated in a recent survey said they trust public-school teachers, and most also said they favor recruiting high-performing students to become classroom teachers. The results of the poll, released Wednesday by Phi Delta Kappa International and the Gallup Organization, also found that Americans are divided on whether teachers unions help or hurt public schools. However, 52% said they side with unions in their disputes with governors over collective bargaining.
