Calif. middle-schoolers get "algebra booster shot" in university math program

More than 100 eighth-grade students from six schools in three California counties spent a week this summer honing their math skills at Algebra Academy, a program with instructors and graduate students from California State University, Monterey Bay. The program gives students an "algebra booster shot" and targets middle-school students after observing that about half of CSU's incoming students need remedial math, said professor Hongde Hu, a co-founder of the academy.
