Palm tries to lure developers with paid-app beta test

Palm will begin a commercial beta test next month to charge fees for download applications as the smartphone maker hopes to persuade developers to write apps for its webOS operating system, Palm said. The company issued e-mail invitations to developers Tuesday and plans to expand the process to all writers later this year. Palm will give developers 70% of the revenue, the same formula in use at Apple's App Store.
