IBM is researching the use of DNA nanotechnology in microchips. Nanostructures could provide a less-expensive method of building microchips, according to a paper published in Nature Nanotechnology. "Basically, this is telling us that biological structures like DNA actually offer some very reproducible, repetitive kinds of patterns that we can actually leverage in semiconductor processes," said IBM research manager Spike Narayan.
