Solar-charged mobile devices seen as a work in progress

In theory, consumer-electronics companies would like to build solar-charged mobile devices, but in reality the CE firms have been slow to actually manufacture such products, according to James Hines, a research director at Gartner. Hines isn't blaming the manufacturers, however; he says solar-powered chargers so far have suffered from high cost and low performance.
