Energy firms might be nearer EMIR thresholds than expected

Nonfinancial counterparties will be required under the European Market Infrastructure Regulation to clear over-the-counter derivatives trades once a certain set of thresholds is reached. Energy firms might be closer to those thresholds than they realize, experts say. The situation could force them to rein in derivatives trading.
