Non-energy companies gain from shale gas development

Non-energy companies such as Waste Management are benefiting from shale natural gas development. Hydraulic fracturing has made oilfield waste disposal a growth industry, according to Waste Management's 2012 report. The company also intends to provide rig maintenance and other services to energy firms in the Midwest's Bakken Shale formation with its recent company acquisitions. "While we work with oil and gas customers around the country, these acquisitions give us access to an element we haven't previously served," Harry Lamberton, Waste Management's vice president of energy and environmental services, said in a statement.
