Philadelphia to speed up smart meter rollout

Pennsylvania regulators have given the Philadelphia Electric Company the green light to accelerate its rollout of smart meters, allowing the utility to complete its deployment of the devices to its 1.6 million customers five years ahead of schedule. To date PECO has installed 619,000 smart meters across its footprint and will save an estimated $58 million on the early rollout by eliminating the need to maintain two systems simultaneously.
