Researchers focus on role of cholesterol in lung surfactants

The impact of cholesterol on lung surfactants is the subject of ongoing research by scientists at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Minnesota. "Our pictures show that a small amount of cholesterol can break up lipids into smaller and smaller pieces that appear to be stable – the cellular membrane raft hypothesis," said researcher Joseph Zasadzinski.
