School health plan translates wellness into savings

Two-thirds of the staff at New Hampshire's Laconia School District participate in wellness initiatives through SchoolCare Health Benefit Plans. The initiatives have saved enough money to preserve eight teaching jobs and provide incentive benefits, the superintendent said. SchoolCare includes a Web-based program that allows participants to track their exercise and earn points for answering health-related puzzles and questions, with points translating to cash payouts.
