Geriatrics doctor warns about overtreating hospital patients

An article in JAMA Internal Medicine about overtreating hospital patients is a reminder that it is best to leave an older patient's routine care for chronic conditions to their regular physicians and just deal with what brought them to the hospital, University of California, San Francisco, geriatrics professor Dr. Ken Covinsky writes in GeriPal. He said it may be tempting to intensify treatment for hypertension or diabetes while patients are hospitalized, but it can lead to overtreatment and put patients at risk after discharge.
