ISMPP document helps define value of publication support under Sunshine Act


A "suggestions document" issued last week by the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals offers companies guidance regarding how to calculate and allocate – for Sunshine Act reporting purposes – the publication support they provide to physicians authoring medical publications. The document, written by an ISMPP Task Force, discusses the scope of reportable activities, approaches for allocating and assigning value, and reporting dates. "There is so little direct guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on how to define transfers of value for this practice, so we wanted to step in to fill that gap," said Bob Norris, ISMPP founding member and past president, who served on the task force.
