N.H. Senate considers expanded scope of practice for dental hygienists

A proposed bill in New Hampshire would allow specially trained dental hygienists to extract teeth and fill cavities. Sen. Peggy Gilmour, D-Hollis, says her bill is an effort to expand access to dental care, particularly for Medicaid patients whom many dentists refuse to treat, but critics say there is no major shortage of dentists and the approach is misguided.
