What education lessons can be learned from the riots in England?

The recent riots in England show there is more to education than core academic subjects and exams, says Estelle Morris, a former education secretary. She writes in this opinion piece that lessons in citizenship often are not a priority in schools, and that academic achievement is key to ensuring young people feel they are part of society. She also writes that schools often are called upon to provide stability and discipline for students -- roles typically fulfilled by their families.
