Beacon Communities offer lessons on clinical quality reporting

A brief released by the ONC states that some of the 17 Beacon Communities have demonstrated success in using health IT to report clinical quality measures electronically to Medicare. This article discusses three lessons that can be learned from these successes: using EHRs not only for billing purposes but also for analyzing patient trends and clinical performance; harmonizing CQMs with value-based payments; and promoting consensus among outside providers.
