Hospitals improve quality, safety using NASA program

Hospitals employing the NASA-developed crew resource management program, which is based on interpersonal communication and decision-making, report they have improved efficiency, patient safety and quality of care. The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center had logged one retained surgical device or object each quarter, but because of CRM it has had no retentions for eight or nine quarters, an official said.
