Play and creativity are key to instilling love of STEM

Allowing students to play and be creative can be the key to instilling a love of science, technology, engineering and math, writes Ainissa Ramirez, an author and former engineering professor at Yale University. Using metaphors can open up STEM concepts to students and help them understand more abstract ideas, she writes in this blog post. "These phrases make connections between that thing we know and that thing we are trying to explore. Metaphors are thought-mappings that help understanding," Ramirez writes.
